Evans powers MFC to second-round Ontario Cup victory

Highlighting an early-season scoring run that would be impressive for a hockey star — much less a soccer standout — hometown striker Jake Evans found the back of the net four times to lead MFC to a 5-1 win over Club Italia Juventus in round two of the Ontario Cup playdowns in Niagara.

Evans’ latest exploits — including three goals in a 10-minutes span midway through the first half — lifted his goal tally to 15 in just six games.

Upgrade in talent and added experience offer bright outlook for Milltown FC

The prospect of an 8-3-7 season wouldn’t have exactly thrilled Omar Jbaihi heading into 2013.

But Milltown FC’s returning head coach readily admits his initial expectations for last summer were a tad too lofty.

“I think we overvalued out talent,” noted a candid Jbaihi, whose team kicks off a new season in the Peel-Halton Soccer League’s Premier Division Friday, May 23 at OKD. “We had thought we could challenge for the league (title), but looking back now I think we got more out of what we had than I first thought. To finish third and be the only team to beat (top-seated) Livno twice… yeah it was a satisfactory year.”

Exciting Match Between Milltown and BST Ends in a Draw

Milltown FC’s futsal squad was feeling confident going into week 4 of CPFL action after last week’s decisive victory over North Toronto.

Their opponent on Sunday was BST of Brampton, featuring Tyler Botelho, who helped lead Milltown to the CPFL playoff title in 2013.

MFC got out to a quick start, led by two excellent goals within the first 5 minutes of the game by leading scorer Erick Olazabal. Olazabal had a few chance to record a first half hat trick but the BST goalkeeper was up to the challenge, making some outstanding saves to keep it close.

BST got back on track and got two goals late in the first half and the teams went into halftime tied 2-2.

BST carried their momentum into the 2nd half, scoring quickly to take the lead 3-2 but then, moments later, Milltown ‘keeper Guiseppe Iaccheo...
